David Gunton supplies all sorts of species of boards from many sources,
but, most especially, wide long boards. By clicking on most pictures
on this site you can see a larger version.
Not all these photographs show finished floors. This will be because
these are new stocks of which we do not have finished floor photos.
Others may show floors laid in unfinished rooms - because we have not
been able to get back to photograph the finished job.
Blackbean
This is a most exciting timber floor. But you can't have one. This
is an Australian timber, blackbean. it is rare and endangered and
is protected now, so it is no longer a commercially available timber.
Similarly exciting floorings can be made from other highly contrasted
timbers. However, the achievement of this appearance owes just as
much to the skill of the floorlayer as to the beauty of the timber.
This is a serious handmade floor into which a considerable amount
of thought has gone in the production of the boards through to the
fitting and finishing.
Ash
This is a Ripple Olive Ash Floor.
The Oak framing is also brand new. The combination is stunning and
timeless.
This is a close up of the Ripple Olive Ash. The boards are of random
widths from 200mm to 300mm wide.
This 1st grade, all white, Ash board floor is of random widths from
80mm to 160mm wide in boards up to 3.5 metres long. It is 20mm thick,
tongued and grooved all around with a chamfered arris. It has been
laid on the diagonal in the wonderfully angular attic in an otherwise
very Gothic Victorian mansion. The lay of the boards draws attention
to the strong architectural elements of the room and accentuates the
sense of space by increasing the length of the sight lines.
