PERSONAL ASSISTANTS
This position is offered as a job share.
The boss of this small, highly regarded, hardwood flooring company
needs a lot of looking after to keep him and his business affairs
under control. His assistant for many years is having a life change
and has left to explore new pastures. She will be sorely missed.
The new assistants will already have many of her skills, but there
are many curious things to learn if you are even mildly attracted
by wood. The boss is patient and expects a new assistant to learn
by osmosis on the job. The work is very varied and interesting. This
tiny company makes some of the finest hardwood floors in the world
and has an international clientele. Generally the company’s
customers are very nice people to deal with.
The company’s tiny, and extremely basic, no-frills, office
is the hub of a national operation, which is in an expansionist mode.
It is situated in the midst of open countryside yet within a mile
of Winsford town centre.
The assistants will be central and fundamental to the day-to-day
running of the business and to its long term success. The assistants
will run the office and organise the boss. He or she will answer the
telephone, carry out all accounting procedures, respond to correspondence,
raise invoices, settle accounts, bank the cheques, calculate and pay
the wages, book accommodation and travel arrangements for staff and
the boss, and act as his general factotum and right hand. If it needs
doing – you will do it – even to the extent of occasionally
wax polishing a sample, packing and posting it and feeding the dogs.
You will be a non-smoker, literate and numerate to at least good
GCSE level and will have been educated to ‘A’ level standard.
You will be computer literate and skilled in MS Word and have a competent
understanding of simple book-keeping, accountancy software, VAT, payroll
calculation, and the proper recording and reporting to the relevant
authorities of these matters. You will also be familiar with MS Outlook
and Excel. You will be familiar with the Internet, e-mail, and Winfax.
You may also be familiar with Photoshop 6, and Dreamweaver or similar
photo and web page building programs.
You will have initiative and an entrepreneurial spirit. In the small
things like organising wages data etc. you will take a lead unbidden.
If you have larger ideas significantly affecting the development of
the business you will be capable of creating a presentation to 'sell'
it to the boss and will reap rewards for such intiatives.
It will be your natural inclination to be tidy and organised –
the complete opposite of the boss! You will be enthusiastic, well
spoken, polite and capable of being both diplomatic and firm as appropriate
to the circumstances. You will have an attractive telephone manner.
It will help if you have an interest in good interior design and a
liking for hardwood floors.
You will be fit, energetic and in good health. You will have your
own transport and a reasonably clean driving licence. You will be
a person of integrity. You will probably be a mature person, settled,
without commitments that will make it difficult for you to maintain
a good work attendance record. You will be capable of maintaining
strict confidentiality of business and private matters.
The job hours to be shared are 45 over the 5 weekdays. Start and finish
times are flexible around 9 to 5. The job share will be required to
cover all of these hours with a least ½ hour overlap and will
be required to cover each job sharer’s holidays.

Holidays, nor during the period between Christmas Eve and New Years
Day which form a part of the statutory holiday entitlement.

£14 K to £20K p.a. according to experience and abilities.
