David Gunton designed these floors for a Grade 1 listed 15th century oak framed Manor House. They replace other poorly conceived oak floors which can be seen by clicking here. By clicking on the pictures on this site you can see a larger version.

This room is 12 metres long but only about 4.8 metres wide. It is the earliest part of a much extended elegant and luxurious manor house. The boards that make up this floor are immense, all entirely hand worked English Oak and finished in oil and wax polish. They conceal several trapdoors beneath which are electricity, computer and telephone sockets and TV aerials.

The boards are not quite so immense in this room, but still large. They run from wall to wall in single lengths of just over 5 metres. Each board is 'coned' - i.e. wider at one end than the other. These cones are paired up so that the wide end of one falls at the narrow end of its neighbour. Gorgeous?
