David Gunton supplies Country Grade European Oak boards from various
sources and various widths, but most especially wide long boards. By
clicking on most pictures on this site you can see a larger version.
Not all these photographs show finished floors. This may be because
these are new stocks of which we do not have finished floor photos.
Others may show floors laid in unfinished rooms - because we have not
been able to get back to photograph the finished job.
Country Grade European Oak Boards
To the right is a photograph of a Country grade quality European
oak board floor. This style of oak board floor may be made from
a wide variety of widths, lengths and thicknesses. This enables
the floor to be finely tuned to your budget and the desired appearance.
This little floor in a cottage is made of boards from 250mm to 300mm
wide. We supply this grade of board in random widths from 100mm
up to about 400mm wide. This floor has been fumed and oiled. It
will improve with age, wear and tear and loving care over the next
few centuries.
This is the same floor before it was finished. This lighter colour
can be maintained by not fuming and by the application of water based
lacquer. There are many other techniques which are employed to achieve
interesting and beautiful appearances. You may consider bleaching,
liming, ageing .......
This is a traditional oiled finished oak floor. It is so lovely it
speaks for itself. It needs no eulogising from us. However, it is
20mm thick and, in this instance, is fitted over a variety of substrates
including an earlier joisted board floor and in part, a recently made
screeded concrete base with softwood bearers embedded. It is fixed
by drilling, countersinking, screwing and pelleting.
This new dining room floor is now a valuable part of the fabric of
this house / home. We would like to think that in two hundred years
time it will still be there. With only ordinary care, there is no
reason to think it will not be. It is 20mm thick, face fixed, drilled,
countersunk, screwed and pelleted to bearers in the screed and is
fitted over underfloor heating.
